The aim of Wikiground is not to grow as an organization.

The project will never adopt a formal organizational structure, accumulate resources or hold property. This decision follows from an understanding that corporations, nonprofits and other organizations maintained by legal definition are, by definition, constrained to the possibilities of their respective economy. Wikiground is committed to exploring the potential of human cooperation beyond economic rationale. What you see here is a living history of an ethical trajectory.

Wikiground is an informal project. It advocates research-creation concerning techniques and technologies of decentralization. As a project, it places particular emphasis on the value of distributed communications and the need for daily life practices which are local and sustainable.

Ideas and passions should be allowed to circulate freely. This means supporting Open Source communities and Creative Commons ethics. It also means helping these communities to grow beyond hardware and software.

A free and accessible commonwealth of information for how to build and repair any and all technologies of daily life will be an essential feature of future sustainable communities.

Wikiground is motivated by a future where distributed practices of open source exchange can serve as the very medium by which local communities are connected. It looks forward to a global community that is produced by an ecology of free exchange rather than by an economy of wealth extraction.
